Recently, I had a conversation with a rather well-known fiddle player. He is a recording artist and former champion. For decades he has been celebrated throughout Canada and in the U.S.
During our conversation I said, “You know, I finally figured out the difference between a violin and a fiddle.”
“Well, actually, there is no difference.”
“I believe there is.”
The look on his face told me he wanted me to explain.
I continued, “Following a violin piece, people yell Bravo, Bravo. Following a fiddle piece, people yell Yeeee-Haw.”
I think he agreed with me.
